Behind the scenes - Content Creation for Virtual Production
We are happy to present the behind-the-scenes work and the process that led to the creation of the final project of the course that took place at the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia in Rome, where our CEO, Daniele Barone, served as course director and teaching coordinator, as well as supervising the work.
The description of the workshop and the related call for applications issued by the CSC can be viewed at this link.
The course lasted a total of 80 hours, divided into 4 weeks.
During the course, 3 teachers and several operators alternated among the various workers and actors present at the Centro Sperimentale, which will be described below.
First of all, we would like to show you the students’ final project, inspired by the opening sequence of the video game Expedition 33 by Sandfall Interactive.
The original music featured in the video was composed by Lorien Testard.
Here you can view the Unreal Engine scenarios created by the students:
Week 1
The first week the students were followed by the teacher Jacopo De Rosa, guiding them on the creation of an Environment in Blender and on the creation of some props.
Oltre ad un approfondimento su Unreal Engine del sistema di programmazione a nodi (Blueprint) e l'illuminazione tramite la tecnologia proprietaria Unreal "Lumen".
Below are some photos of the in-class training:
Week 2
In the second week, the teacher Lorenzo Raffi guided the students on a high-level overview of the potential of Unreal Engine and on how to exploit the engine for the creation of assets dedicated to virtual production, creating an Environment within Unreal.
Below are some photos of the training in the classroom and inside the school:
Week 3
In the third week, Nicola di Meo worked together with the students to realize the final idea, instructing them on the main use cases and problems for the Set Extension.
Week 4
In the last week of the course, still guided by Nicola di Meo, the students finalized the work on Unreal, prepared the set design, supported by the workers of the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia, carried out lighting tests and divided up the various roles on set during filming.
Finally, carrying out the editing and post-production work.
