Free Immersive Sound workshop: selections open

The Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia is now accepting applications for the “Immersive Sound” workshop, a free training course dedicated to immersive sound and its applications in contemporary media. The initiative is part of the Cinecittà Project, funded by the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) as part of the development of the film industry.

Structure and schedule

The workshop, organized by the Scuola Nazionale di Cinema – Polo Immersive & Performing Arts in Venice, will take place entirely online on May 12, 13, 14, 15, and 18, 2026, for a total of 20 hours of teaching. There are six places available and attendance is mandatory. At the end of the course, participants will receive a certificate of attendance indicating the skills acquired.

Program Contents

The course includes a theoretical and a practical part. The first introduces the fundamentals of immersive and spatial sound, with a focus on the differences between stereo, surround, and spatialized listening and the role of sound in building the experience.

Among the main topics covered:

  • sound presence and auditory orientation

  • relationship between space and perception in XR and VR environments

  • role of sound in user engagement

The laboratory part is dedicated to listening exercises, case study analysis, and design experiments. Participants will work on the construction of coherent sound environments, until the final presentation of the developed works.
