The CSC presents “Narrative VP Lab” dedicated to Virtual Production

The Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia has opened applications for the workshop “Narrative VP Lab – Tools and workflows for writers and directors”, a course dedicated to Virtual Production and new technologies applied to cinema and audiovisual.

The project is part of the activities funded by the PNRR – NextGenerationEU and aims to train professionals capable of working with virtual sets, LED walls and digital workflows which are increasingly present in film productions.

A practical workshop on Virtual Production

The course is aimed primarily at directors, screenwriters, producers and directors of photography interested in learning more about the tools and production strategies of VP.

Unlike many theoretical courses, the workshop will be based on real production experiences and will include practical analyses, exercises and case studies.

Among the topics covered:

  • use of LED walls and Unreal Engine

  • writing scenes for virtual environments

  • direction and cinematography on VP sets

  • production workflows and budget management

  • differences between live VFX and post-production

Teachers, Coordinators and Curators

The course is led by Nicola di Meo, VFX Supervisor con anni di esperienza su produzioni in Virtual Production, Nicola è stato il supervisore del Film "The Opera" with Vincent Cassel, Caterina Murino, the only Italian film made 90% in Virtual Production. In addition to having worked with names of the caliber of Johnny Depp, James Franco, Mike Tyson.

The coordination and supervision will be by Daniele Barone and Daniele Tomassetti.

Dates, duration and available places

The workshop will take place remotely from8 to 12 June 2026, for a total 20 hours of training.

The available places are only 6 and participation is completely free. Attendance will be mandatory, with a maximum of one day of absence allowed.

A certificate of attendance will be issued at the end of the course.

Requirements and application procedures

To participate you must:

  • be at least 18 years old

  • have a high school diploma

  • send your CV and cover letter

Experience with 3D software or modeling programs is not required.

Applications must be submitted by 12:00 PM on May 22, 2026 through the official platform of the CSC. The selection will be made through the evaluation of the materials sent and a possible introductory interview.
