About This Episode

Roblox wants to become a platform for more mature, more polished, perhaps even HD games.

But is this really the right direction?

In this episode of Buona La Prima, we talk about Roblox's new push with the Incubator and Jumpstart programs, designed to bring creators and teams capable of building more ambitious experiences to the platform.

The gamble makes sense: part of Roblox's audience is growing, has different tastes, more spending power, and might start looking elsewhere for deeper experiences.

The problem is that Roblox has become huge precisely because it's not Steam, it's not PlayStation, and it's not Xbox. It's lightweight, immediate, accessible, highly social, and mobile-first.

So the real question isn't whether Roblox can make better games.

The real question is whether better games make Roblox stronger, or simply more confusing.

With Sergio Rocco we try to understand whether Roblox is making an inevitable move to grow its audience, or if it is trying to buy a premium credibility that perhaps doesn't really belong to the platform.
